Post Your Computer !!!

OK, for those who wish. I found out we have a few Computer guru's on the forum. We show our trucks, our pets, our toys, our tool boxes, now its time to show what we all must have since we would not be here without it. I have to many computers, but I will start by posting the last one I built. Running XP Pro. The most stable OS in the world in my opinion.

Nothing Extravagant really in that one. But it was built with lots of room for additions as funds became available. Building that system was supposed to retire this system I am using now. My old Dell Dimension 8400 which is a flawless running computer for over 4 years, closer to 5 years. BUT, That powerhouse ABIT mobo in that system was supposed to support RAID. It has bugs. So I waited a few months waiting for BIOS bug fixes. Never happened. Now told that the chipset in that mobo will not support RAID, so I just out of luck, and ABIT will not take it back since I have to go to my retailer, and its been over 30 days. I loved ABIT boards. and bought many of them for myself, my family, freinds, kids, and their friends. NEVER AGAIN, will I buy another ABIT board just for that reason alone. Poor support and when you goof up, you ought to make it right. Everything else I love aboutt the board. For exampble Gigabit Ethernet onboard, 6 SATA Connectors, 2 external SATA connectors, 4 Dimm Slots for DDR2, 7.1 Channel Audio, Dual PCI-E 16x Video Card slots etc. Has some good features, but the one huge feature for me, is RAID. And I have tried and tried, with no luck to get the RAID to work. So I will either change mobo's someday, or get an add on RAID card which I prefer not to do. So that leaves me unable to retire this Dell system that has RAID running great. So I keep all my files on the Dell RAID system and kinda use it like a server and my other computers can access the data on the Dell RAID computer.

I see you like those Super Writemaster burners too HotRod. I've got a pair of them, one PATA and one SATA, as well as a nice Memorex and a Sony Blu-Ray. My main box is using a Biostar K8M800 mobo, with an AMD Athelon 64 X2. Video is through an ATi Sapphire X1650 w/512mb, audio is a VIA AC'97 card with 7.1 Dolby Surround.

The mobo supports RAID via the SATA2 but I'm not using it at the moment because I have my Blu-Ray and a DVD burner on SATA2. Storage is a trio of WD 500gb ATA-133's

I'll try to get some pics up when I get the desk clean enough to show in public.

I'm in the process of gutting the room to build the home office in here, so it ain't exactly "pretty" at the moment.

RAID is Redunency Array of Inexpensive Disks. Inexpesives can sometimes be substitired for Indepedant, and Disks is sometimes substituted for Drives. Either way you choose to say its correct. There are also differant forms of RAID. Most common are RAID 0 aka Striping RAID. Where you have 2 hard drives of say 250 gig and your data is written to those 2 drives at the same time and you have a total of 500 gig of storage space. Benefit being, and usually gamers like RAID 0. Your mobo bus can access the data on both drives at the same time speeding up the access time. Bad thing is, one drive goes bad, you have lost all your data because 1/2 is on drive and 1/2 on the other, and the data can not be accessed without all of it being there, so you lose all data. RAID 0 is for SPEED only. Not data security. RAID 1 on the other hand, you also have 2 hard drives, say 2 x 250 gig hard drives which = 500 gig storage space. But you will only show 250 gig, because 1 drive is mirroring or copying the other drive instantly. Benefit being, a hard drive fails, you have not lost your data, and you can keep right on working until its convenient to replace the defective drive in the RAID array and it will rebuild itself to be protected again. That is what I use. RAID 1, aka Data Safe RAID.

Geez, What's up with Cz. You know, you think this guy is alright until you see his stickers. He had Mopar stickers on his tool box, and now I see a Apple logo on his Getaway IBM computer. What's up with that?
