Grew up in Colorado. Used a .308, wonderful caliber. Take on Deer and Elk.

My fav is .257 weatherby
Shoots flat. My bro reloads, but i forget how many grain the soft points we used were. My dad bought the gun when he was like 20 something....he can sell it for more than he bought it for now!

For Whitetail, .270 (130's for me as well.
I also like a 25-06.(117's) I use Hornady SST's. I do not have to reload for accuracy since I began using them.
I have never shot a sweeter caliber than the 25-06 for accuracy over 100 grains.

i live down in south GA, and shoot a 30-30 for whitetail, it's reall all you need down here, because most places you're gonna hunt around these parts are pretty wooded so you dont need anything that can travel a long way. for the people around here who have fields or pastures or have cut some big food plots, they use 30.06....

I am against the 30 30 myslef. It is too range limited. I was into them once but couldnt get a deer at about 200 yards so i sold it. Same with my 45-70. I dont limit myslef when it comes to range anymore. I hunt with a 270 and 130 grain boattail bullets. It is nothing out of the ordinary to fold up a song dog out past 350 yards with it. A 270 is a necker down 30-06 case with a lighter bullet. I have a 25.06 also but i still like the 270 for deer.

i is range limited. but like i said, down here it's pretty thick everywhere. so you dont need alot of range. my dad hit a deer with a mrlin 30-30 from a ways out one time ( i dont remember how far, i'll ask and post later) that shot hit it, but didnt kill it, he walked down to it and put the killer in her.

Personally never shot a 7mm, but I know they can take care of business. My old man dropped a hog from about 400 yards out with his weatherby 7mm. He used to re-load his own stuff but that has been many many years ago. I couldn't tell you what the type of bullet or grain were.

7mm is agreat round. Gets out there. Pretty comparable to the 270 actually. I have a 308 match barrell tactical i use when I go shooting for real distance . (over 600 yards)

i could never get any acuracy with a 45-70 no matter how many yards. the same thing with that .444 mag that i used to play around with. i dont do much hunting but have been fond of sk, flat shooting and dependable. same thing with .222
