| Flywheel question I was wondering if anyone has pulled a tranny off a BMW. I have an 1988 528E BMW and I pulled the tranny to replace the clutch and I noticed my flywheel was lose first off its one of them very expensive two peace string loaded flywheels anyway I can move it front part by hand and up and down like a quarter inch. I didn't think that was normal so I got a used one from a junk yard that cost me 200 dollars a new one cost way to much like 630 dollars. This new one dose almost the same thing but not as bad I'm wondering if this is normal or did I buy another toasted flywheel?

| I think you spent 200 dollars that you didn have to. The flywheels are spring loaded to help absorb initial load when the clutch is engaged. I have personally seen many that were loose as you described and never had problems with them after installing new clutches. Just to be sure I'm understanding this it has slack when rotating correct? Hope this helps

| Yes it has slack rotating from left to right or right to left dosen't matter it moves about an inch each way. Also I can lift the first section up about a quarter inch. And the other flywheel I have dose the same but not as bad. I've called our BMW dealership and asked them about this and they told me I should be able to move it at all by hand. So I don't know maybe I'll resurface the one I pulled out the car and use it and return the other one its doing the same thing as mine... So what your saying that the flywheel is acting normal? The car gone a long way it has 214k miles.

| It's not normal. It should not have any movement. But like i said i've seen many flywheels do that and just resurfaced them and put them back in and had no problems with them
