93 grand cherokee limited

hey ya'll. this is my brothers ride and i have yet to look at this problem. but from what he's saying, it will crank and run for about a second or two. then shut off. only issues i know of with it are that the exhaust is not connected after the manifold and its got a bad rear main seal leak. its gotten pretty cold here lately, could the cold and exhaust combo be doing something with it or could the oil leak cause some sort of oil pressure safety switch to shut down the engine? he said the second or so it runs, it runs perfectly fine. also, is there a port anywhere to hook up a scanner to try and pull some codes?

i dont really remember but i believe when the map sensors went bad on the earlier ones they acted like that do a search and check if it happened on 93 models as well

does his oil gauge move when he cranks it or when it does run? if not could be a bad pressure switch.

V8, i'll look up some stuff on that map sensor. let me know if you run across anything. and not sure yet mud. i wont get to look at it until this weekend. could a bad oil pressure switch or just lack of oil pressure force the engine to shutdown? like as a safety precaution so it doesnt run without oil or anything

it's only a 93, wait untill you tear in to something with OBDII or the OBD3 they're rolling out.

anyways, anyone know where i can plug in an OBD scanner? i've found a method to pull codes online, but it doesnt use a scanner, was wondering if theres a port i can plug into instead of this.... (and it'd be nice if someone can verify this method)

You can check the codes yourself.

Turn the key ON, OFF, ON, OFF, ON - the check engine light will begin to flash out the codes in double digit form, there is a short pause between each digit and a long pause between each code.

example:
| pause || - 1 pause 2 = code 12
||||| pause ||||| - 5 pause 5 = code 55

Just post your results here and I will let you knwow hat the codes mean.
