1998 ford 9000 so I just flew back into Vernal from san jose(can I say california road ways SUCK!!!) after looking at a "new" tire handler truck. It has a 2126 cat diesel in it with the typical California emmision control stuff. the company is giving a steal on it, cause It gonna cost to much to get back to standards, and It has a problem with oveheating when pulling a grade....... SO my question is, what is the possible causes of over heating when pulling a small grade with the inline 6 caterpillar diesels? It will be pulling into the mine next week sometime, and I have to get it into working order so I can mount the new 993 loader tires...... ANY ideas?

I wondered about that. I was also going to ask if the emmission equipment being removed would help the heating up problem..... I have to have the motor re adjusted by cat so it'll handle the 6000 elevation difference, and they are going to turn up the motor anyway. I was thinkin that I would change the thermostat, water pump, have the radiator boiled, and put a new fan in..... but, as it will spend most of it's life on 14-15% grades, I cannot have it over heating... any other things to check?

I wasn't able to get it to overheat........ but then san jose was only 65 degrees when I was there. the coolant temp gauge is what they are going off of I guess. It did lack in power though...... caterpillar is already scheduled to come change that for me though
