If this is the IH DV-550 diesel, check the valve adjustment, as the camshafts are prone to flat-spotting. Last time I checked a new cam was about $3000.
Otherwise, these seem to last ok in the trucks.
Either one will last OK, if maintenence and proper operation were observed. That said, I'd prefer an IH DT-466 any day.

Andy I'm the same ole Creeker from the bullet boards. Trucks are one of my vices also.
This engine is a V/8 diesel found is medium duty International trucks. I'd say it's in the same class as the Cummins VT-555.
