| International Engine????? Seeking information on a 9.0 Liter, 185 HP, V/8. I drove the 466 engines for years but never a 9.0L. Anyway I'm looking at a truck with this engine and know nothing about them. Any input appreciated.

| The dt 466 is a great engine in my opinion. I have worked on alot of these over the years and they are reliable and tough. I know a couple of companies that have some 9.0's and they seem to like them. I haven't got to work on any of them. Just from what I've heard, they seem like a prett decent engine. |

| Lynn, Dont I recognise you from another forum???? If this is a gas engine.....run like ****!!!!!!!!!!! They are nearly bulletproof, but if they break, they are ruinously expensive to repair. Over revving killed alot of these off. IIRC, they are 545 cubic inch. If this is the IH DV-550 diesel, check the valve adjustment, as the camshafts are prone to flat-spotting. Last time I checked a new cam was about $3000. Otherwise, these seem to last ok in the trucks. Either one will last OK, if maintenence and proper operation were observed. That said, I'd prefer an IH DT-466 any day. Andy |

| Talking about a IH engine the 4 banger that came on some of the older Scouts 1963 and so on they had a V/8 oil pan so the engine always had a lot of oil to it thats why they would last so long I got this info is from my brother that has one and he was reading this from a big service manuel that he bought and thinking about it when one places a bigger trans pan it helps the trans out a lot so I guess it's true what the manuel says. I know it has nothing to do with this engine but I just wanted to share this info. |
