popping in jeep when turning

i know this isent really a jeep forum but im sure yall can give me some input. i bought this jeep a while back and whenever you turn, you get this popping grinding noise from the drive shaft. it only does it when your in gear. the guy that sold it to me said it was from the drive shaft extension. i just wanted to see what yall had to say and if its something i should worry about.

thanks, drew

have you shaken the joints for the driveshaft yet?? good place to start. might check the front end too since you say it does it while turning and in gear.

while your checking front end, check your mounting bolts on your steering box!!! Have seen that many times. Remember a 1/16 is like a million miles on a front end. Have someone jerk the steering wheel while checking.

Did anyone put aftermarket lift items on. Some guys forget to change steering arms and seriuos componets. Just to save money. Especially on jeeps.

hmmm and only does it when turning leads me to believe its something in the front end. not necessarily the drive shaft..... are you sure there are no tires rubbing?

hmmm, that was just an easy one to rule out so i threw it out first.... you say it only does it in gear and when turning? do you mean if your rolling throug a turn and throw it in neutral the noise goes away, or if your sitting still with the wheels turned and its in neutral there is no nosie? this will help differentiate between driveline and front end

if im sitting still theres no problem neutrel or in gear. but yes exactly like if im going through a turn and pop it in neutrel the noise stops.

zembonez will become famous soon enough
Is this with 4wd engaged or all the time? Lifted Wranglers are known for odd front end issues. What you describe sounds like a knuckle to me.
