| 93 Isuzu Amigo???? 93 Amigo with the 2.3L Carb engine. Alright, one day it worked great, next day I went to start it and it acted siezed. Once I turned it over by hand, it fired off but was extremely rough and billowed white smoke out the exhaust and smelled like gas. Tore it all apart and found around 2 GALLONS of gas/oil mix in the oil pan. This is problem 1. I replaced all of the gaskets in the engine and rebuilt the head, then put it all back together. It starts...sorta. It is very rough and occasionally spits gas up out of carb? I have checked the timing, everything is good, compression is great across all cylinders. I can drive it, but it has NO power and shakes really bad??? What the deuce is wrong with this thing? Any ideas on what this could be? I though maybe 180 out on the cam, but I don't think the engine would run then? Any help is greatly appreciated because I want my beach truck back!

| Alright, the running issue is resolved. For some reason the manual had the firing order wrong, so I followed the stamp on the block. It runs GREAT now. But what would have caused that much gas to get into the oil over around a 2 week period. I know it was only 2 weeks because I just changed the oil and it was fine before. I drive the thing every other day to and from work.....5 miles round trip? I am just looking for ideas to make sure I fixed everything that it could have been. I did find alot of oil on on of the valve stems....could it have been shot and allowed that much gas to push up past the seal though? And to answer your question brad, the rebuild went fine, didn't see anything abnormal other than that one valve stem seal and then one of the metal seals on the head block gasket was broke.....but I didn't see any water trails on any gasket like it could have been leaking.

| could be several different issues when it comes to gas in the oil and difficult to track. i have no experience with isuzu though. if you went through a complete mr. gasket or felpro set, than you probably have resolved this issue but would suggest keeping an eye on it. when you said that you turned it over by hand, how hard was it to do?? you might have flooded the unit out and broke something when you forced it over. flooding and hydralock is devastating to engines. valve stem guides do not keep gas and such from leaving the combustion chamber. the valve itself does that job. the seals keep the oil from entering the intake chamber in the head from the valve train. this is why when they dry up and crack, the engine smokes a bit when first started. |
