Oh this poor Disco

I am so sick of being broke. This SUV is going up for auction next week at my freinds impound lot and I can do nothing about it. This thing is not hurt that bad. I have wanted one for so long and normally this would be my chance. I wonder if I could sell my body to science.

Lonesome DON'T get it there nothing but trouble my step daughter had one I told her don't get it but she did. I read up on them the engines & transmissions go out on them plus replacing parts are super high well the SUV was stolen and totaled so she bought a dodge truck much better just the time she had the Land Rover it was always in the shop in fact they gave her some warranty on it and the engine messed up before it was over lucky for her. I remember reading to where people had bought new ones and they just wanted out of them because they were nothing but trouble in fact some owners were suing Land Rover. Price a item on Ebay that will change your mind.

I have not heard any of that. I know thay are pricey, but if I take my time I can find good deals on parts here and there. Either way, I cannot touch that SUV. I do not have the money I am sure it will go for.

I have had two discos and they never gave me an issue. There are a couple of year models that were all lemons. My first one was a 1997 Disco I, 197,000 miles when I sold it. I only sold it because we could only ship two cars from Hawaii to Jax, FL. I have a 2004 Disco II now, 65,000 miles, no problems. 1969 Series IIA-53,000 original miles and limited problems associated with age. All rovers leak oil, expect that. You can feel them shift gears, you can hear the traction control working and you can feel/hear every crack in the road. That's just how they are. It takes a special person to love a Rover and someone willing to put up with what they are going to throw at you. Stay away from the 2003 models-JUNK and LR3's or RR Sport. Ford ruined LR's image while they had control. I do all my own maintenance except for high dollar stuff-it's still under warrenty-and I take it to them. Dealership mechs are a rip off no matter what brand. Tata of India just put out a message saying that they were going to take the Land Rover back to the way it was ment to be. Don't know what they mean by that, but anything is better than Ford's influence.

Lonesome, do not buy this truck. There are plenty of good, running discos out there. Just to get this running again-7,000-10000 depending on engine plus accessories. Don't even get started on body work and front suspension steering and if you are lucky, the chassis won't be twisted. If you look closely, the air bags never deployed on this truck. DON'T DO IT!!! I'll help you find one cheap and in good condition. This truck is SCREAMING parts truck. Unless you have a ton of money to spare.

Get yourself an older one 1997-2001 for cheap. Depending on what you want it for, play with it, 'feel' it out, make a few repairs on it, and see what you think. I am in no way dogging the brand I drive, just stating facts. The only problem I have had with my '04 was the ignition packs went out and it has eaten two sets of the stock style tires. Promise the tires were not really my fault, it's the weight of the truck not being displaced enough for that low profile tire. I would not consider driving or buying anything else right now. But, I also know my truck and know what to look for that might lead to potental problems. Gas MPG-13-15 town/hwy. MPG offroad-17 last I checked.

having driven a ton of rovers during my valet days, i'd definitely agree they are an acquired taste... personally i thought they were horrible- hard to drive, ergonomics apparently isnt in their vocabulary, and they were excruciatingly sluggish. i'd take a suzuki samurai over a rover, at least then i could put the top down.

Good year. Mine smelled like melted crayons. The only problems I had were the O2 sensors needed to be replaced. Then I decided that offroading at Kaiena Point was the easiest way to remove the Cats, so I had that fixed. Oh, running boards don't make good rock sliders, fixed that. It was in great shape when I sold it.

Sammi's are awsome. I have gone back and forth on whether or not I want to get one and biuld it.

I like the 97's but I doubt I will find one when I have the money. That is how it works. I knew some one with a 97 Disco that he lifted and modified himself. He did quality work and it rode better than it did stock. That is where I get the desire to own one.
