91' Yj

i knwo this is my 2nd post on this, but for sum reason when i posted in the off-topic section, it wouldnt show up on recent posts, so i did it here to make sure every1 saw it.
i'm lookin at buyin a 91 jeep wrangler from a guy. he wants $3,200. but i wanna make sure i get a good deal.

stats
-4.0L 6 cyl egine w/ 136,000 miles.
-tranny is on the way out ( but has brand new clutch and slave cylinder)
-all terrain tires ( i think 30"s)
-body looks like you would expect for a 91' (doesnt look to have been taked off raod much)
pros
-soft top that is under 6 months old
-bikini top with cover for back seat that is under 6 months old.
-it has a metal step bar on each side
-has a CD player with removable face
-a sub behind the back seat
-two smaller speakers mounted beside the back seat.

cons
- refer to tranny issue above
-the windshield has a leak somewhere, when it rains water drips pretty swiftly from under the dash. (couldnt see leak just by looking)
-the passenger side windshield latch also leaks (visible)
-drivers side door lock doesnt work
-gas gauge doesnt work ( shows 1/4 tank means time to fill up)
-no A/C ( or isnt working, didnt look to see if it was installed)

let me know if yall think he is giving a fair asking price, if not, what should i ask. thanks

3200 for a 16 year old jeep with over 125k miles. i woouldnt but then again thats me. and the tranny is going out. sounds to me that if you buy it, that you will be spending more than what you want to in the near future.

Weird. I just sold my 1989 Jeep YJ, with 179,000 miles for $3800. I only had the 2.5L 4-cylinder. Manual tranny was 75% good. Not going out anytime soon, but not perfect either. I had a 5" suspension lift, and 33" tires on it with tons of extras (bikini top, new soft top, herculined tub, new front seats, seatbelts, high-lift, cb radio, full size spare, alloy wheels, the list goes on.)

$3200 is too much. A new tranny is $1500 for that thing if you have a shop do it for you. I know, because I put 2 in my jeep during it's lifetime. I'd offer $1800 and go as high as $2200. It really depends on how bad the tranny is. Is it gone or could you drive it for a year? Feel free to PM me if you have more specific questions. I owned my jeep for 9 yrs and did all the work myself (except the tranny).

the tranny has a brand new clutch and slave cylinder in it, will probably last between 1 and 2 yrs

Well, then, depending on where you live $3200 could be a fair price. I'd low-ball him. You should be able to get out with $2700. Do your homework. How long has he been trying to sell it? If it's been a while, he might be ready to just get rid of it (for cheap).

the thing is, i know they guy, he's actually an old youth pastor of mine. so i know he's not tryin to rip me off, and i'd feel bad if i tried to low ball him too much. he hasnt even tried to sell it really, no sign or ad or anything, a while back when he first got it i was talkin about how i liked jeeps and would like to get one, and he knew that i was needing a new ride soon bc i'm sellin my burb. so he just called me up and asked about it.

Well, here:
http://www.kbb.com/

Punch in all the stats and look at the private party value. You'll have to manually include a deduction for the transmission. $3000 would be fair to both parties in my opinion.

Just for fun, here's a picture of my old 89 YJ

I just love to see a 4wd actually spend some time off road. Nice pics.
