The good, the bad, and the ugly.
Hi guys,
Been a while since I've been on here. Job and family keeps me busy. My son and I (mostly I) have purchased two and a half new projects. The first is a 1968 AMC/Kaiser Jeep M-715 military truck. Thats the good. Now for the bad. The other project is a AMC Eagle SX/4. I believe it has the same or similar running gear as a Jeep CJ. The car is in great shape body wise but the running gear is trashed. It has a AMC 360 V-8 that is mostly oil cooled and a cobbled-together Ford 9 inch on the rear with some sort of Dana front. Neither are original. Im planning on a full rebuild of the running gear. (I want to make it safe for my son. It is his first car.) The half project is a Eagle wagon shell that we got for parts. No running gear at all. I'd like to know where I can locate parts for this unusual car. I have a 98 Jeep Cherokee XJ that I was considering using for its drivetrain. Would the 4.0 and transmission fit under the hood? I have access to a machine shop, so fabrication isnt a problem. Also would I need to modifly the axles in any way to make these work? |

it once had a 258 six cylinder, and the 4.0 is a very common swap. Were you aware that there was even a turbo diesel available in these (interesting) little cars and wagons.
If you have a cherokee, why not use the entire thing for the wagon? Both front and rear dana axles will go under any of the cars, and you have all of the parts there, so it should be nothing more than time, and labor. Sounds like a fun set of projects. |
