Never had much interest in any of them. Forums are where it's at for me.

Might want to keep that on the down low. I think it negates your terms of use if you have more real than "fake".

Those that do myspace twitter etc are living with
some different basic concepts than me.

I don't ever look for friends, it's a by-product of common activities.
Activities are things in the real world, whether trucks, kids, church or hunting.
I don't consider video games or bs'ing here activities, though I do both.
That would be like saying switching to the left hand is expanding my social life.

My main purpose on here is education: getting it and sharing it.
Sometimes there's some humor involved but that's not why I am here.
The friendly aspects of this place just make it a pleasureable experience.
Anyone here that I consider a "friend" is still awaiting a real world reality double-check.

I've been around here for over 2 years and 2200 posts.
Does anyone really know what city I'm in ?
I recently implied I was in Texas and it went undisputed.
Am I a budist monk? Did my momma name me crab?
Am I 30,40,50,60,or maybe even 70? Did I vote for obama? or anyone?
Am I a qualified sniper or anti-gun w/ cataracs?
Is my home on 1500 sqft or 1500 acres? Do I have pets ?
I know this kind of stuff about many here who don't have that many posts.
Thank goodness I'm not a staulker or ID thief (so I say anyways)

I'm big on privacy, different than secrecy. Certain things are only
going to be told to folks I am letting in my home, and that has limits.
Census workers get ticked because I won't say what race I am.

I'm well aware that myspace etal is becoming a social "norm"
but I'm from the group that says "I wish my TV didn't know how to get Springer"
Gee maybe I'm not the only one, think of the number of folks that lose jobs
because of what they themselves posted online (not others).
Remember, once online is forever, what's "cool" now may be re-labeled "flaw" later...

I don't mean any of this in a high and mighty way,
but all folks here really know about me
is that I print neatly online.
Kinda makes you wonder about my sig...

The one thing I learned a long time ago is that there isn't any such thing as "privacy" on the Internet. If you post you leave a trail. If you leave a trail you can be found, if someone wants to look hard enough. In most cases it's not worth the effort, unless it's some kind of personal feud and you're a wacko nutjob... and wacko nutjobs usually don't have the skills to do it right.

In my case, I could care less if someone wants to "pay a visit" or steal my identity. First off, I spent six years doing EOD/UDT work in the military, so you might find yourself facing some surprises. Secondly, my g/f fiance is a Federal officer. Third, my home is also the headquarters for a WWII historical association and wargaming group.

Always seems to be a bunch of folks with weapons around here.

USAFGM is on a distinguished road
I have a myspace and a facebook but rarely use them. I think they are all kinda gay. I used mine to keep in touch with all those that I deployed with to Iraq. But once home we all lost touch. I think I have 4 friends on mine and rarely talk to them.

What's Up Crab??? Are you trying to get deep or what??? I see your point, but there is another point, that I find much more valuable than the point you make. You are right, I do not know all the things you mention, but by your posts, I can get a good idea of the "Type" of person you may be, not how much money you have, what you live in, your race, religion etc. My point is, it does not matter your race, wealth, demographics, religion, etc, but I can, along with many other people here, have a relationship with you and learn alot, share alot, and help each other alot. It may not be a personal relationship, or bestest buddy relationship etc, but nevertheless, it is a form a relationship even though it virtual, and I do know behind that monitor and keyboard, there is a real person behind it regardlesss of your money, race, religion, who you voted for or not. Hope you understand that point too.. Online buddy !!!

Not getting "deep" just noting that people's natural gregarious nature
causes them to blur over the line as to what kind of relationship they do have.

This is a valid but one dimensional kinda place here on the net.
Not a good place for baring your soul, but a lot of folks do just that.
I can and do accept virtual friends but never forget that's what they are.
Some folks here I would like to meet in person, but until I do,
I am substantially in the dark as to who they really are.

In the real world I have all kinds of friends, but never accepted them
until I knew a lot about their real life. Sort of like hearing someone is a good driver,
but taking a cruise with them before committing to carpooling.
You can learn a lot with your own eyes, has nothing to do with
a person being dishonest with you or somehow "lesser" than you.
Just learning whether it's a fit for you, lots of different styles out there.
And I know the real world is no guarrentee - remember Bernie Madoff(sp).

I kinda figured some would object to my comments, but it's not judgemental.
That's why I said "I'm big on privacy, different than secrecy"
privacy is how you live your life, secrecy is about whether it can be found out.
Like the concept of "not doing your laundry in public" isn't about hiding.
I don't think places like facebook are to blame,
nowadays you can see the same problem on public buses.

Related to why you will see me tease folks from time to time,
but I will never attack them publicly for their differing beliefs.
I'm a nice guy, but also a cautious one.
