as far as driving and owning... stick is the way to go. very basic, easy, and inexpensive, and less drivetrain power loss... not to mention more fun.

but to work on i perfer auto's. they are very simple to work on, but everyone is intimidated by all the small parts. they come very easy to me and i get to make a lot of money on 'em

Personally, I prefer a stick. My wife used to speed-shift our '61 Travelall, now she likes a slushbox. My Tracker has a 5-spd, my '75 F-250 SC has a 4-spd that sees little use of the 1st gear except for heavy loads or steep. My '74 Chev has an AT that I tolerate, but it's a farm-use beater. I also drive big trucks and other rolling stock at work. It helps to have a sensative foot on the go pedal AND clutch.

"Box Van"
Just Kidding, What does that have in it, a C-6 with OD? Those are an almost bulletproof tranny, and yes an auto does have a clutch, just not a manual one. I bet that tranny in your box van has all the HD goodies from the factory.

As long as it runs and goes. I aint gonna make fun of ya cuz of what you drive. If you want, I have a 1979 Ford F-150 Ranger XLT that you can have. The frame is shot but the cab and front sheetmetal would fit nicely on your 1 ton chassis.

I'll try to get some pictures of it, Its over at my uncles house. Heres the story on how I came to own this particular truck.

My uncle called me and asked if I wanted an old Ford. (you know the answer, there was no need to ask) Well he knew an old lady who was in a nursing home that had a rather profitable farm and logging business when her husband was still alive. He died in about 2001, so the business went under. The truck was driven for roughly six months afterward until the inspection ran out. It was then parked with a load of mulch in the bed. It sat there at the woman's home until a year ago. She needed to get rid of it and called my uncle. It had a power-angle plow on it so he took that and I got the truck. I must tell you, It is NOT fixable to drive. The cab and front sheetmetal is solid, it does need a floor. The bed is toast, the sides are solid but there are no stringers left and the floor rotted out years ago because of the mulch in the bed. This also took out the last two feet of the frame right behind the rear axle. The rear axle seized and we torched the brakes off it to get it up on the rollback. The engine is seized, I dont know about the tranny. I wouldnt trust it. The wheels and tire are toast too. They look good but wont hold up. The tires were brand new when it was parked, but they have severely dry rotted and the wheels are rusted through from the back. The interior is poor, The dash panel is okay, but it does need a seat and carpet/headliner. The inside smells, but if you trashed the seat, carpet and everything else it should take care of it. I do not have a title or any other documentation on this truck. I could probably dismount just the cab and front clip if you wanted. The rest is junk. I got it for free so it is no loss to me.

Here is the specs:
400 ci V8 (SEIZED)
Automatic transmission (colum shift probably seized)
Ford 9 inch rear (housing okay, reat is junk)
NP-205? transfer case (junk, half is missing)
no exhaust
AC (lol, it did, its garbage)
Mileage?
Sliding rear window

If I can think of anything else Ill let you know.
Seriously though, dont waste your time trying to fix the truck up, it would be better to take the cab and put it on that one ton chassis. Talk it over with your parents and lt me know.

i told my dad that you were giving it away for free, but he said that it would be a waste of time and it wouldnt be worth it, but he said to get pics and see wat i wanted to do, becuz it was me who wants it not hime, but he'll help me with it if i did choose to get it from ya. he said i cant determine if i want it if i cant see pics of. and i kinda like that body style, so yeah, try to get pics of it and i'll see.
