not a tranny buff by any means but my rough understanding is that auto's have torque converters, instead of a clutch????? correct, or no.

you are correct. torque coverters are like 2 fans (impeller and turbine) facing eachother, submerged in ATF. one "fan" is directly attached to the crank. it spins, forcing the other "fan" (attached to the input shaft on the tranny) to spin. inside the torque converter is the TC clutch, whick connects both "fans" for direct drive application. this assembly takes the place of the clutch. oh, and there is a flexplate instead of a flywheel. thats pretty much as simple as i can put it. call me a ****, but i love working on auto trannys.. good stuff

i just love it when a stick shift pulls up next to me and even if hes got me on takeoff i dont hafta let off to shift. haha... i wish i could stop the power loss from 1st to 2nd in my chevy
