Standard or Auto

Which to do prefer to drive and why..

A standard (stick) transmission or Automatic tranny.

I am a standard gal myself. All my vehicles have been stick shifts and I grumble everytime I have to rent a car (which is fairly often) because all they have are automatics.

390FE will become famous soon enough
I said standard. everything I own and have owned were manual's. I have been driving a manual so long I think I have forgotten how to drive an automagic.

But on a side note auto's are nice for just cruising around or for driving home after a long (10+ hours) hard day at work. You just want to sit back and not due a danm thing and that includes pressing the gas peddle

Another reason I like a manual is to be differant. I loved it when I had my 3/4 ton and people would roll up behind me and prasticly touch my bumper and than I would roll back a bit and supprise them "Yep not all trucks are automatics you fool." And I will be doing the roll back more often because the clutch in the yota releases really hight and I finaly just got it inspected and drivable.

All my trucks are standard trannys... My f-250, Amigo, and Bronco. I get more power and control on my speed and I can have more fun with a standard.

Oh yeah, and it saves gas!!!

I like automatics. I know its not as gas efficent, but Yuba City is getting more city stop and go like. I know it sounds lazy, but I like to just take off and not have to shift. I do plan on learning how to use stick, possibly during my trip to San Diego on Tuesday on my grandpa's old International truck. It is usefull to know how to drive one incase you need to.

I've always been partial to both. Automatics are the way to go for a daily driver or a strip car. Manuals in the big trucks like my old 02 powerstroke. Just my opinion

Yeah, Yuba City/Marysville has some poor street planners.. to much stop and go, I can see where you would need to Auto... Ya need to move South.. close to East Nicolaus.. no stop and go there... of course there isn't anything there except the high school

Ok, now if i'm driving a little sporty car, manual all the way, LOVE it, its soo much fun to just rip through the gears, speed shifting adn all, feel like i'm in a race car lol, but in a truck, i just prefer auto, for the big reason of, its hard to fit three people in a regular cab if theres a big shifter in the middle of the floor ya know?? Just my $0.02

Cool

I got one for you. My favorite set-up was a Turbo350 with manual valve body and ratchet shifter. Talk about best of both worlds - NO CLUTCH. Really miss that El Camino. Let my (EX) wife talk me out of it. Guess which one I miss.
