Help advice on buying tacoma

I'm looking to buy a 98-01 tacoma I'd perfer and extended cab with a 4 cylinder. My questions are 1. Does it have notiablyless power than the 6 cylinder and 2. Is there a big enough difference in gas mileage? Thanks

The toyata 6cyl really did not distinguish itself until 2004 with the total redesign. Before then, the four cylinder has always been the stronger motor IMO. You may not be able to pull like a V8, but for giddyup and dependability, it definitly holds its own. There also a huge mileage difference from what I have seen from some friends who own them. If it were me, I would chose the 4cyl with a manual shift all day long. Strong little setup for a japanese puckup for sure. As long as the price fits, I would go for it.

Not to distract you from the years your looking at but Toyota has a recall on all 95-00 Tacomas. Toyota is finaly admitting to having bad frames. Frame rot is the reason. Rumer has it (and I stress rumer) that Toyota is (or is going) to be recalling all 95-00 Tacoma's to get them off the streets. They are paying 150% of there current value if the dealer recalls it.

Maybe if you get a deal buy it and if it gets recalled right away you make a few bucks to put towards a newer one.
