| Md: Feeler - 1989 truck part out (56K Beware) I have an '89 Toyota pickup with @ 165,000 miles on the clock. Got rear-ended about a month ago and the insurance company totaled it. I'm debating on a buy-back but I don't know if it's worth it. The truck is equipped with a 22RE w/manual trans and 4WD. Has a Leonard cap as well. Not more than 3,000 miles ago, I performed the major service on it. I'm a Toyota tech and T-Ten graduate so rest assured, the work is complete and accurate. I replaced the chain, guides, tensioner, water pump, thermostat, headgasket, radiator, belts, hoses and radiator cap. The headgasket wasn't leaking but I was there so I put one on. I'm open to offers but it will be for pick up only. The truck is in full driving condition and can be inspected upon arrival. The bottom line....we were looking for a good truck to use for errands and I knew by experience the 22R was the engine I wanted. It took 6 months but we finally found this one. It ran great and the a/c blows colder than any other vehicle we have. The woman in the Lexus who hit me got her suv repaired but now I've got to find another good truck. We bought the truck in 2004 with 152,000 on the odo. The previous owner ran Mobil 1 synthetic and I continued the practice. Any questions or comments, please feel free to ask. Pics and a video are below. Located in Hagerstown, MD. Regards, Jeremy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| If it were me and it was that dependable, I would find a good bed, tailgate, and back bumper and repair it.

| I agree with Kenny. If the truck runs good just replace the bed and bumper and any of the other damage. |

| What a shame such a nice little truck I third it repair it. Attach a chain to that quarter panel and yank it back it might do wonders. I have always liked them trucks after you repair it wax that bad boy don't use dish washing soap it will strip all the wax off of it like now. Last edited by gmctrucks; 07-10-2009 at 07:58 AM. | Believe me, the thought of repairing was definetly in the cards. I just don't have the time or energy to invest in it. Plus, finding a bed out there of this vintage and without rust is a rarity these days. Also note, the truck can be parted out or bought as a whole. I have 5 days to find interest in it. After that, it goes to the insurance co. You might find it at a salvage yard near you! |

| Man !!! That is a great looking well cared for older truck. With that interior in that kind of shape, by all means, it worth the buyback. If that is all it needs and the frame is not bent. Buy it back. Even if you lost interst or have the time and energy, if its drivable and running, some teen will buy it from you at a little profit in that good of shape and he can fix it at his leisure as his funds become avaiable. You'd be doing yourself and some kid a favor. Its a Yota, so if it has been maintained as well as it looks as it has, probably get another 80-100K on the ticker out of it as is. Can we ask what the ins paid you for it, and buy back is usually 10% of that right? I am guessing you can buy it back for a few hundred dollars. And its a fo buh fo, so I say it worth keeping either for yourself or sell for profit and make some kids day.

| If it was not all the way in MD I would look at it for a school project. Because it would be great practice since I am studying collision repair. But its way to far away from me. |

| Yeah, I say its a no brainer to buy it back. The question is what to do with it after the buy back. For a a fast fix, might even be able to find one of those small steel flatbeds with a headache rack for a reasonable price, like $500 or so, and be done with it. No need to find a bed, tailgate or bumper. Those type beds usually have the DOT style drop hitch to work as a bumper. Just buy the one piece and be done with it. If it were closer, I'd sure give it some consideration.
