Is it worth the money?

I have the opportunity to buy a 94 Toyota 4x4. I have looked at the truck and found it to pretty sharp. It has fairly new paint and tires plus the interior is in good shape. The only problem is after 80,000 miles on the rebuilt engine it jumped time. I can get the truck for $1200. What do you think. That's the bottom cash price.

Welcome to the forum and howdy from TEXAS. The engine is going to run you at least $600.00 dollars plus labor think about that. Or fix the engine that's on there.
jdm source // inventory Look in your local yellow pages you might be able to find a place where you can pick up a engine that's imported from Japan with low miles I did that on our old MPV.

Sounds like it's going to be a royal pain don't go blind just because it looks good or it has a good stereo like others wrote your just buying a body. Have you even looked if they painted it to cover up rust that it had/has.

sounds like a lemon to the previous owner, why invest $2000 of your money into it for a 15 yr old truck?
I think you can spend it better!

since we don't know what engin it is ,could be as simple as replaceing the timeing bet and tenisoner or you may need a engine , if so all yor buying is a body , no more than $ 500.00 less than that is even better .

I agree with the scepticism of the others. I found a truck I wanted for like $5,000. 2002 4 door extended cab 4X4 lifted blaah blah blah the "only thing wrong(according to the seller) was that 3rd and 4th gear were out"

okay so I drop the tranny have it rebuilt for let's say $1,000(he claims seeing guys offer rebuilding for $600-$800) OR I take it to a shop and hope for let's say 2 grand even.

So for the combined total of $6,000-$7,000 I have a nice truck right?

Well I have NO WAY of getting it up to highway speed to see if anything is wrong with the engine allignment etc.

I walked away and feel you should to. I would NEVER buy a vehicle I couldn't run down the road at highway speed let alone start unless (as pointed out) you factor cost plus worse case scenerio rebuild.
