OK well I'll move this to the Toyota forum for you. You'll get more hits there then here in introductions.

390FE will become famous soon enough
If your making it for off road only than I am guessing you are going to be taking all the emmmissions stuff on it. when you do that you will never get it inspected in Calif. I know here in NH you need a plate to put anything on the road, even if towed. You may need to get yourself a trailor for it to properly and leagaly move it. Plus if you brake anything while on the trail you can actually get it home. A tow bar or 2 wheel dolly may not allow you to tow it if certian things brake.

If you want to drive it to off road places than it need to be street legal. Technicaly if you have to drive out your driveway and onto the street for 5 feet to get it to your yard or back yard you can get pulled over and ticketed for an unregistered vehicle. Will it happen, probably not. Has it happened, probably to some poor guy.

Either way you need to get some info from someone in Calif.

hey 83.. welcome to the board!

I am from Cali and I also offroad, so I'll tell you what I know. If you want it for strictly offroading, you don't have to smog it. You can register it as an offroad only vehicle with a green sticker and you can trailer it to the trials. By trailering, I mean, the tires can't be touching the ground, it has to have all 4 tires on a trailer. If you want to be able to drive it to the trails, it has to be smogged, registered and insured. any more questions feel free to ask

No problem! Whereabouts are you in Cali? I'm in the Bay Area... I'll keep my eyes open for a trailer.. CL is a good start though
