| I bought my truck used with a glass pack on it. Just the other day a buddy told me it smelled and sounded like a lawn mower But it a winter beater and summer work truck so a cheap and legal exhaust is all I was looking for. I didn't have to touch it so I didn't. I'd say look into a magnaflow or flowmaster, these might be too loud for you. The cheap ones at the parts stored would work also but I don't know about flow or sound.

| Get a actual sound cancelling muffler like a Dynomax/Flowmaster/Magnaflow and appropriate pipe diameter and you can't go wrong. My current setup for my 22RE Toyota is a 2.25" from the cat and a Magnaflow muffler maybe 14W X 9D X 4H in inches. It sounds like a good stock setup actually when the windows are up. With the windows down it is barely noticeable. If you want a little note but certainly just a healthy hum with a smooth purr at idle I'd try to go 2.5". I had a 3.0" with a similar muffler on a 85 22R carberated and it sounded extremely low and mild but a little louder. After you drove a distance the exhaust started to get louder and some people might think it was was almost loud but still nice. Simple straight through mufflers whether they are a tiny glasspack or cheap performance muffler do little to the sound and often end up high pitched and rough. I like an engine than hums consistant and low without all the volume also. |
