Idle speed in 22re Its a 5 speed with no a/c. Its supposed to idle at 750 rpm...My mechanic set the idle for me, and when i first start it up (not ice cold in the morning) it goes to 750, but after i drive it then i'm idling at a stoplight or something, it idles at 1000 or a hair above. Before he set it, it would idle at about 500 when i first start it (again not totally cold), and then idle at 750 after driving it a few minutes. Where should it be? He said it should not be any lower or i will loose torque...? Thank you for your help

Perhaps you were suggested to keep the timing up a bit to increase the idle and power. If the idle is smooth and acceptable I wouldn't worry about it but I'd imagine mine idles mostly around 1000RPM with the A/C off, a little higher if I just started it. My 22RE runs best and idles to my liking with the idle screw turned to the absolute minimum with the timing adjusted to where it sits around 1000RPM. I also ran premium the last couple tanks because of the timing increase, may not be neccesary but with gas prices being so high the price gap between regular and premium is basically unnoticeable.

thanks man see this is the thing thats wierd though it doesnt idle higher when i first start it, it idles lower. (again i'm not talking about cold morning starts, just starting it up after its been off for a little while), then goes up to a thousand after driving, rather than starting high then goign down a little after driving oh well it seems to idle smoothly so im sure theres nothing to worry about

That is strange since my 22RE and other vehicles I've owned all have a slightly higher starting idle and lower warmed up idle. It could be that your throttle plate has a little stick to it. Try to make sure there is no slack in your throttle cable by pushing it open at the throttle body when running and adjusting the bolts that the cables run through so that the throttle is basically closed but even the tiniest movement of the throttle pedal revs the engine slightly. This should remove the sticking and and make the pedal feel nicer.
