Carb not squirting gas

Howdy all, I'm a new guy here. I have a two owner '80 Toyota 2wd, 4 speed with the 20R motor. It sits for days, weeks or months sometimes in between uses. Anyhow, it won't run now, it seems to not get gas. It will fire up if I pour some gas in the carburetor but it quits after the gas is used up. I disconnected the hose from the fuel pump to the carb and cranked it for a split second and gas came out the hose (about like a drinking fountain) so I know the carb is getting gas, it's just not squirting it into the carb. I would see it squirting wouldn't I? The filter is fine. I'm not a mechanic per se but I can do stuff if I have directions. What do I need to do? Get a carburetor kit? Do I have to take the carb off to do it? Can I just maybe change something without removing the carb? It's a Holley carb but I'm not sure about the number on the sticker, it's too hard to read. Thanks a million for your time.

a carb kit would be a good idea just to keep up on your carb. it comes with directions that makes it easy to rebuild. your problem is probably something to do with the float sticking shut. if you were to take the fuel bowl off, there might not be any gas there. you will need to take the carb off but that is easy to do. try taking the fuel bowl off first, take the needle valve out and clean it. personally, after 26 years, i would go ahead and get the rebuild kit. it will not costs you more than $20 i believe.

Give the carb bowl a few good taps. Spunds like the float is stuck. Usually a few taps with oh say a screwdriver handle will cure that
