badly rusted frame

I have a '97 Tacoma and the frame is rusted to the point it will no longer pass inspection. I have taken pretty good care of this truck and outside of the frame it is in good condition. Anyone else having this problem?

It depends a lot on where you live and what kind of drivin you do. If you're on the east coast or on the coast period... that would contribute a lot to rustage.

I've lived in western PA 8 of the 9 years that I've owned the truck, the other year in southern WV. I did a reasonably good job keeping road salt off of it. The paint, the chrome and everything else is corrosion free. Everybody I have shown the truck to thinks this is highly unusual, even the service manager at the Toyota dealer.

Boxed frames do rust quicker because most people dont realize they hold salt inside them . They need to be rinsed inside after running thru rough enviornments like salt.

I know the older Toyota's suffered from the fram rot but I thought they fixed that.

If its just some small parts or cross members that are rotted that cam probably be fixed. I had 2 cross members fixed on my 87 for fairly cheap money. Shop around because I had 1 guy tell me $1600 for fix it and I hade it done for $425 at a differant place. I wasn't looking for pretty show quality just regidity and inspection pasable. I no longer have a spare tire carrier but I don't have a spare tire so it dosen't matter. And I pulled a truck(F150) around the yard with a chain hooked to the new cross member.

If you don't wanna go that route maybe somoen will give you decent money for the body and drive train. Someone willing to fix it or do a frame swap(ton-o-work)
