mpg 2007 v6 4x4 access cab

I just bought my 2nd toyota 4x4 and want to know what owners are getting for mpg. Truck #1 is my 1988 22re 4x4 xtra cab with 5 speed manual trans. I have been getting 20 city/24 hwy for 19 years. My new Tacoma is a v6, access cab with 6 spd manual, 4x4. Only 1400 miles so far, but i only get 17.5 mpg hwy. I am interested in what other owners get after break in. I am driving and shifting at manual recommended speeds.
Does it get any better MPG ?

Unhappy mpg update

i now have 5000 miles on my truck. all miles are hwy or rural hwy. mpg is a steady 17.2 avg. if i tow my seadoo i get 16.2...i assume at this point this is as good as it will get......discouraging for a small truck but is has soo much power and acceleration i assume this was the goal of the mfg...i would rather get more mpg...

I had the same truck (07 tacoma with V6 and stick shift). The best mileage I got with mine was 14mpg on the highway. I traded up to an 07 sierra classic 3500 with the 6.0 v8, put a 1600lb flat bed on it, built a heavy duty tool box, installed 33" mud tires and now Im getting 17mpg. I dont need to push a button to engage my locker now either (that really made me mad about toyota's TRD package, No locker unless your in 4X low) My locker in my new truck always works no matter my speed or gear possition.

Good luck with your taco.
