Thanks K... Apparently I have been misinformed for years... I only had the one car with the pontiac engine so I didn`t get into them a great deal. Not the strongest design out there for hi HP for sure. As for the olds.. weren`t they all the same block too??

The Olds gets way crazy with regards to block sizes. The Gen I engines were the same, but limited to 394 CI. These were all based on a standard deck heigth and stroke. the biggest changes were simply in the bore.
The Gen II engine was introduced around 65 (I think) and this also introduced a new block with a "Tall" deck and was clasified as just that, a "Tall deck" block, but was easily refered to as big block.
These engines went up to 455 CI, and the common engine was 425 CI.m while the 350 was introdeced during this time, ,(about 68) and the little engine used the shorter block. All of these were wedge engines and some had a prett crazy valve angle with a fairly flat combustion chamber. This design helped to produce less emissions.
I should also include a little mention that Olds had a turbo motor, also an all aluminum model, and they had a diesel in the 80's.
Most were piles, but they deserve a mention. Lol.

As long as we are mentioning piles.... Pontiac had a turbo motor as well in the 80 trans am... 301 cu in.... Not to be confused with the 1989 turbo v6 version.

a while back ago, i think olds made a car with a twin turbo factory. referred to as the TT. cant remember what it was called. i know they made a line of cars that sold fairly well that they took the design from to make the TT. maybe someone here knows what i am think of.

It may have been the Toronado, Cutlass, or the Acheiva. I know the Buick Grand National came with a Turbo Version.

The Grand National, and its lesser known brother the T-Type regal were in fact turbocharged 231 v6s. However, none were twin turbo. the years spanned from 77-87. starting with the pace car edition. Performance peaked in 87 thanks to "high-tech" (in those days) SFI and the addition of an intercooler. extremely fast cars from the factory, no problems mopping the vettes or F-bodys, likely the fastest american production car of the time
quick facts:
all were automatics, no manuals, so don't buy into it.
3.42 posi, 8.5" rears only.
available with T-Tops
The T Type was a plain regal with the turbo motor- note, these were faster than the GNs simply because some were stripper models.
not all were strippers though, so it might not apply. available in any color.
GNs were all black with grey interior after 84 or so. blacked out bumpers, and grilles. Everyone is identical, and pretty boring if ya think about it.
there was the almighty GNX, limited production in 87, that sported a different instrument cluster, more body mounts, and a redesigned rear suspension. Different rims, and special badging as well. Some sort of engine package that made it faster as well.
The last 78-87 G-body produced was a grand national, and is in some museum.

Thats all I can think of know.
