two sided door lock cylinders

ok im looking for a set door locks that use the the same two sided key that my ignition switch uses. i have checked at auto zone, orielly's, the chevy dealer, and all over the internet looking for them to no avail. Anyone got an idea other than a junk yard where i can get these?

i think LMC truck and JCWhitney sells them. might be the only place other than a local yard to get them. if this is for the 96, good luck with one fitting the ignition too. being that chevy uses wafer cylinders, it is possible to take the lock to a reputable locksmith and have them changed out so it will work both.

single sided, double sided, it really doesnt matter. a double bit key will work in a single cause thats all it reads. a double bit key only enables you to put in in either way without looking at it. might be why you can find a double sided. only thing that matters to you is making sure you have the correct keyway.

it is the same on both sides. early 90 models had singles that would only go in the keyway one way. yours doesnt matter though and thats why you dont see single cut keys anymore.
the ignition reads every cut on the key but not the door. the door only reads 3 cuts on that key which makes it possible to have a valet key, when it comes to the glovebox. i believe there are 9 or 10 cuts on a 96 chevy key.

basically, if the key fits, buy it. there are several different brands of locks out there but that doesnt mean that each key fits only one lock. i.e., kwikset, titan, and wiesner, are all different lock makers but you can use one key on all different locks just because they use the same keyway.
and you are not a dummy. just being cautious because you were unaware. big differance between arrogant and dumb.
