| question for you diesel guys if you had a choice of buying a 2004 dodge 3500 with 5.9 cummins that has 80000 miles and looks to be in great shape, or a 2006 dodge 3500 with cummins 5.9 and it has 186000 miles...would you trade off the milage and get the older or would you not worry about the miles and get the newer truck.both are about the same price and both in great looking shape. |

| it would come down to price and condition of the vehicle, 186k is getting up there in mileage, have you driven them both? a hard to start diesel may be worn out, indicating low compression. they may smoke a bit of black but alot of blue smoke on a cold start can indicate bad rings, or leaking valve seals. I always try to find a lesser mileage unit when buying used, but it has to be in great condition too, if it had 50k but was a little dinged up and such i won`t even look at it, just the guy i am.

| I too would think that 186,000 is getting up in miles, and a 2006?? thats been driven alot.... The 2004 with 80,000 is barely got any on it.... I think Id go for the 2004, as it will have a little less emission stuff on it |

| well i havent driven either one. the older one is about 220 miles away but the 06 is only about 50 miles away.they both appear to be in good shape but as far as the body goes...im a body man so wouldnt matter to me. my only thng with the older one is like you said earlier with the weak transmittions. |
