Well my wife's Grandfather worked as a mechanic for 50 years at GM in NY. He's in hoping for the bailout. I work for a plastics company which is Union. Unions have their ups and downs. Seems like some people that should be fired aren't or can't be while others have to pick up the slack.

I don't think they should be bailed out. I think that highly paid CEO and other $$$$ grubbing top people should be fired or demoted. When is it ok for a business to give out bonuses when you aren't doing good?

I've owned nothing but Hondas before my Truck. (89 Accord, 94 Prelude Si, 2004 VTX 1300S cycle, and a Honda Lawnmower.) I still have my motorcycle and lawnmower though. Why would I buy a Harley Davidson when I can buy a Honda VTX cruiser that looks pretty close and even has a bigger motor than quite a few Harleys when I can buy a Honda VTX for half the price. The VTX 1800 is bigger than a lot of Harley stock bikes and costs at least $10K less.

And about the healthcare. I think it should be a universal healthcare system. But, I think people that don't have jobs shouldn't have health care. I think if you want health care you need to either be retired (but worked for X amount of years) or be working and part of your paycheck is taken to pay for it. My view is this, I know there's a lot of people mooching off of my tax dollars already I don't want anymore. Some welfare people take advantage of it. Some need it though and I totally understand. But, like Jesse Ventura said to a woman when he was the Gov. of MN. MN didn't get you pregnant! Why should we have to keep paying for these idiots to keep having kids to stay on Welfare or increase their Foodstamp money.

I'm not racist I hate everybody the same. :P

now that they got the 17 billion, lets see what happens. if yall get a minute, look through the terms from the dept of the Treasury. really interesting how they have it setup e.g. them not allowing bonuses and such for the top 25 salary earners. unless signed by the president. also note that the government will own stock in the 2 companies. so much from keeping the government out of corporate america.

The thing about a bailout is that it's a short term solution to the problem, if sales in the industry don't pick up and money more wisely managed they will go through this bailout in no time flat and still continue in a downward spiral, I feel bad for the workers and there families, but to fix the problem all three CEO's need to be fired and massive changes need to be made. One other problem we got is with the economy in general the way it is and the price of new vehicles and everything else for that matter, people are probably buying more used cars or keeping there old cars patched up, It's hard for most people to get credit right now to to finance these expensive cars, even a guy as wealthy as Donald Trump right now is having a hard time getting credit. Here is another thing that really pissed me off, I heard on the news that The CEO's of the big three took a private flight to ask for there bailout, which cost around 20,000 dollars each when they could have took a commercial flight for probably between 300 and 600 dollars. What they did is not the way to go asking for a handout, I was watching the meeting on tv where they admitted to taking a private flight to talk about getting the handouts. This type of greed and mismanagement of funds is just one example of what is not going to help the big three in the long run, not to mention the price of cars and like I have said the overall condition of the economy in general. I don't know what the real solution to the problem is, but a short term bailout will just put us further in debt in the future with more than likely the problem not being resolved.

i agree with many of these points...while it is wrong that they need to be bailed out we can't let them die, besides I love american cars and trucks and the latest 'tuner' fad is really not helping either...even when the big three make a good product people don't buy them cuz they are brainwashed from the start that only foriegn makers make quality cars....did you know that a 2004 Impala gets 34 avg. mpg? and they handle on rails and got great pickup. Consumers need to give the big three a chance, and by doing that they would be helping their fellow man.

i am glad that they are making them pay this money back. or so we will see. i do agree what i would hate to see them go down the tube and shut down but thats the market for you. i didnt see supermarkets getting money when WalMarts opened up the new Supercenters. where was their handouts when they shut them down?? Winn Dixie was a major chain back then. now i cant remember the last time i seen one.

i know that i am not going to make any friends by commenting on this thread, and that said I mean no offense to anyone. I work at a Dodge dealership. I vote no for the bail out and this is why.

My uncle who happened to work for ford for god knows how long just agreed for a BUYOUT package that would afford him 100 dollars a month less than when he was working, as well as 50000 on top of that. What is the point of paying someone who is not working any more that much money, especially when the company is already in trouble? and another thing is the fact that the unions are always griping. why they get paid more than anyone else and dont have to do anything. here is an idea, I work at a dealership and get paid ten dollars an hour to do basic maintenance like tire rotations, whether it is raining, snowing, or otherwise, the union teamsters get paid oh lets say fifty dollars an hour to pull tires off of a robotic arm that holds the tire for them, and they never have to get dirty. why do they deserve all these benefits. think of every American who has to fight everyday to pay their bills by busting hump every day. It aint fair. and to think that tax payers are going to have to bail out the companies that are already hosing them, I say no again. I am not worried because people who already have cars are always going to need to get them worked on. I hate the unions and always will. they were good in their time, no more. Let the automakers go bankrupt and rebuild plants in states like Kan. S.D. Neb. N.D. that are right to work states. and theres another unfair piece of legislation, why should your boss be able to fire you for no reason with no questions asked? there are always going to be problems. but if anyone believes that the automakers are going to pay these debts back, your being cenile, if they dont have any money now and we have to give them money, when are they ever going to get enough money to pay back the so called loans. second, what is congress going to do with the money if they do pay up? we wont ever see it again. i have to fight to make it in the REAL world and in a country based on oppurtunity, everyone needs to find their own. Union labor in the auto industry is robbery. OSHA took care of all the problems that the unions were originally intended to improve so let the unions die, maybe this is the only way. besides chrysler has announced to shut down for 1 month instead of the usual two weeks for christmas, but everybody is gettting paid!!!! Its all ridiculus.

just my opinion.
