Fuses make sure it didn't short or blow a fuse. I found my amp in my truck not turning on amd when it did would come a couple seconds then shut off. Found the big 30 amp fuse was shorted and melted on one side. Could be what happened to yours.

may be a compressor....is the clutch engaging?...screeching is an indication of belt slippage,

With the ign. switch turned to run, check for voltage at the A/Cs pressure switches.
The switch located at the filter/dryer{silver looking can} is a clutch cycling switch.
No voltage there then recheck the fuses and or the wiring.
If there is power to one side of that switch but not the other then get a set of gauges and check the A/Cs pressures.
Must be a charged system for the cycling switch to turn on.
If there is voltage at the cycling switch then check to see if there is voltage getting to the A/Cs clutch wire. At the clutch, green and black wires, voltage should be there if the system is charged.
If there is no voltage at the cycling switch then check the fuses.
