I just replaced the serpentine belt on my 4.8 V8. How do I know if the belt is to tight?
As long as the spring in your tensioner pulley is operating properly, the tension will be where it needs to be.
this is the thing,, the tensioner after replacing the belt has maybe 1/4" of slack left. Meaning if i need to remove the belt thats how much it would release to get the belt off. I am thinking the belt is too tight.
they are tight for a while wait a couple of days and check again they do stretch
Not to insult anyones intellagence, double check to make sure the belt is placed on all the pullies correctly. I've done that myself and had slack left in the tensioner. New belt or not the tensioner shouldn't have any play in it; unless the spring is bad. I'm trying to get on the Chilton Library to pull up a diagram but the Military site is down right now. I"ll keep trying to get on and post a diagram.
Got you the diagram:
Accessory serpentine belt routing—4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L engines
got it thank you,
