I replaced the fuel pump, filter and fuel line, i pour gas in to carburetor and it turns over and runs briefly, however as soon as the gas in the carburetor is gone it shuts off and won't run the fuel filter doesn't have so much as a drop of gas in it...any ideas as to why? have already tried both fuel tanks.

sock/fuel pick up in the tank or the rubber lines connecting the metal line.
Is there a fuel filter under the cab?

If he has a carb it will be on the carb don't think they put filters on the frame but may have in that year, are you sure pump is pumping, is it the pump in the motor or one in the fuel tank.?

Why did you replace pump? for the symptom your having?
Try this take filter loose turn engine see if fuel comes out.

Oh just thought of this the carb filters go in one way they have a flap valve keeps fuel at the carb to start easier is it in the right way, iirc the flap valve goes in first against the carb.

It is dual tanks? Same on each tank? The selector switch may be a issue. Its common.

bypass the selector switch and try just one tank.
