i have a 97 f150 4.2l v6 it seems to me the clutch engages too soon what could cause this?
Can you clarify? Do you mean that after selecting a gear, the clutch bites while the pedal is still near the floor?
With any clutch problems the first thing to check is the fluid level in the resevoir.
well after i select a gear the clutch bites as soon as i release any pressure like right at the floor and the fluid level is fine
First thing, I think, is to look at the pedal linkage under the dash. Look for worn/broken bushings where the pushrod attaches to the pedal and for any excess movement in the pushrod itself.
While there look for any signs of fluid on the firewall where the pushrod goes through.

ok i had a look at it nothing really seems wrong with it. i probably should have mentioned that i just did an engine and transmission swap from the same year truck that was wrecked. im going to try bleeding it again if not i have a buddy who is the manager of a local parts store he will give me a good deal on a new clutch kit i'll try that
Well then I would think you have air in the hydraulic system. I would bleed it again.
Get a helper to pump the pedal a few times and hold it down, then open the bleed screw. Once flow stops tighten the screw. Repeat untill all air is out. Make sure the resevoir is not allowed to run dry.
thanks for all the help i bled it out and there was still a fair amount of air left in the lines shes working perfectly now.
