I have a 2000 Silverado that has had an erratic gas guage for some time. It often goes to, or below E, when it's not working. I've heard this is common for these trucks and the transmitter needs to be replaced. Lately though, I've discovered that when the needle drops to E, if I move the gear selector to nuetral and drop it in the detent, the needle will return to where it should be. It doesn't always work, but maybe 60% of the time it does. Now, why would any wiring to the gas guage, be on the column, near the linkage? Has anyone else experienced this ?
