I had to install a new starter yesterday. I bought a reconditioned Duralast that has a rating of 99%like new. Anyway, I installed it last night and started it up, and there was a loud whining coming from it.So i read the directions, and it said if this occurs install a full shim across both bolt holes, and try again.SO i did, same sound.Installed another shim, same thing, last shim, same thing. Then i read that it said for minor adjustments install 1 half shim on the onboard bolt, the one towards the motor. But it said do not install more than 4 on one bolt.So i threw 3 on one bolt, same sound, put the last one on, same sound. Is it possible that this starter is just going to make that sound? If not, what damage is being done if I just leave it this way?
