truck whining noise

    hi thanks for your time i have a 1990 c1500 and when the truck is cold started something is whining really loud but when it warms up it stops a little bit but it really stops when i put it in gear i have no idea what's wrong and another thing is my engine is a 5.7L v8 and when its in park it's idling high but it's not that bad.

    Probably powervsteering pump. Open the hood and look around. A mechanics stethoscope is really helpful in isolating noises. Or a big screwdriver.

    I have had transmissions whine until they warmed up.

    so this is normal till the trans warms up because were i live it's like 5 degrees fahrenheit

    Check your fluid level. It's not normal but you never know. It's old and cold.

    they all make some kind of noise when the temp hits single digits and below

    I would hit the serpentine with belt dressing first see if anything changes. Then have a look at that damn tensioner
