What years are compatible with my 94? Its a stock rear end and its got 200k on it and whines pretty bad so i would like to get one out of a newer truck if they will work (limited slip if possible like on the 02 Z71 I had)

well if its 5 lug u could only go to about 1998 but if its a 6 lug you can go all the way to at least 2004 or 2005

No, they are not all the same ratio 94, so unless you want to regear your front diff, you need to match up the same gear ratio. There is no such thing as a factory limited slip, so if you get very very lucky, someone has upgraded their rear end with an aftermarket unit. If you find a factory RPO Code G80, it'll be the Eaton Locking Diff aka Gov Lock, and better well known in the Truck and 4x4 forums world as Gov Bomb since they are not well liked and tend to strip the teeth on the outer ring mechanism. If it were me, I'd be looking for an open diff unit, so I could add a Lock Right locker unit myself. What is wrong with your unit? Can it be repaired? I am thinking if your axles are OK, even if you found a 5 lug unit, you should be able to swap your 6 lug axles and brake drums.

Mine is a factory 6 lug but its whining at low speeds, thats all, just looking for a upgrade but it looks like I am better off upgrading just the diff in mine to a locker.

Have you checked the oil level in it, low oil will make it whine.

True if its just whining. If its howling, to late. Damage is usually done.

Cool, I have never got to install one before. You decide you might need a hand, lemme know when you do it, and I'll try to get avaiable. You obviously can't be that far from me. I am near SE 4th and Eastern, or actually closer detail, the New Napa on Eastern is walking distance for me. Be sure to let me know what you are paying for the unit too. The cheapest I found a unit for my truck was at Rocky Road, but not sure about their shipping charges. Might even find it somewhere local for cheap too.
