38 chevy pick up

    have a 1938 chevy pick up, 4speed tranny,---- rear end has damaged ring gear. would like to know about up date to better ratio for road speed. What else would fit- pass car differential or?

    If it were me I'd go with a Ford 9." As far as the gear ratio you'll have to figure what's going to work best for you, i.e. what your primary use will be for the truck. A 3.73 ratio may work well.....?

    On my 57 F100 I put on a rearend from a 1974 Ford Torino perfect fit I just had to weld on the perches for the leaf springs and the gear ratio was much better than what it had it was super low.

    daily driver, would drop to 3.42....might consider a 5 speed tranny and 3.73......however the decision depends on engine and torque

    Mr.Leo I went from a 3.42 to a 3.73 and my mpg is about the same in fact once I took a trip and used less gas which it had never happened before.
