    I have a 2007 Dodge Ram with a 5.7 Hemi 151,000 miles.

A couple of times in the last 2 or 3 months, its taken a few seconds to start. It normally starts in a second

Yesterday morning it was cold here in the south at about mid to high 20's. I go out to start the truck & it turns & turns & turns but doesn't start. It spins fine, but either isn't getting fuel or fire. I suspect no fire. So, I try 2 or 3 more times & still no start. On about the 4th time going at it for 10 seconds or so each time, it hits & immediately starts right up. I head off to work & no problems... runs fine, no missing, jumping or jerking... runs just like it always has.

I got off work about 5 pm yesterday & the same thing. I went at it 5 or 6 times & it turns over just fine but just wont hit. I tried pumping the accelerator & I tried holding it to the floor & I tried no accelerator at all. Nothing made a difference. It never even tried to hit. Once again, after about 6 times or so, it just hit & cranked right up. I'll add this, it may be turning over for 5 or 10 seconds, then out of no where it just hits & fires up. No warning, no sputtering, no nothing out of the ordinary. When it finally hits, it fires right up. Anyway, drove home.... no problems. Runs, no spitting, missing, sputtering... nothing.. runs fine.

Then, about 3 pm today, I decided to try it since it had warmed up to about 40 outside. Same thing.... crank & crank. Finally after about grinding on it for 10 seconds or so each time, after about trying it 5 or 6 times, it just hit & cranked right up. Drove into town with no problems, left the truck running while I did some shopping, then drove back home. Once home, I shut it off & waited about 5 seconds, hit the key & it fired right up like it was a new truck... just as it always has. I waited about 15 minutes, went back out, hit the key & fired right up. Waited about 30 minutes, tried it again & fired right up. I done this about every 30 minutes for about 3 hours & no problems. I just waited an hour between try's & cranked again, no problems & its back down to 33 right now. So, now its been 4 and a half hours since I have been intermittently trying... Plenty of time to get cold & no problems.

I have no clue, it maybe due to cold, it may not be.
It could be a/the coil (I remember the old Fords from the 60's)
I thought about maybe water in the gas freezing up... but again, no sputtering, no missing, no trying to crank... it either don't crank or it does.
I have to admit it needs a tuneup but, again, no missing, sputtering, no sluggish pickup out of the ordinary..

    Any suggestions?
I'll try to answer any questions & I appreciate any relevant responses & help......

Try cranking on it for fourty five seconds, see if that helps.
My pigup, it takes at least thirty seconds, on first startup of the day after that, just barely touch it.
When it gets cold, around zero or below, it will take close to a minute of cranking. Sometimes a few tries too, when it gets real cold.

Update: new fuel pump installed in the tank - $415.00

On this truck, the fuel pump, fuel filter & fuel level sensor (fuel gauge) is all one unit.
