Wow it's been a while since I've been here... still got the beast. Was driving it every day until the transmission started slipping. It was supposed to have been rebuilt, which I believe, but I seriously question the abilities of the guy who built it. I had the issues with the tv cable, got that fixed, but it still wasn't right in OD, but was great in D. Eventually it started slipping, and now the fluid is definitely burned. Scored a good trans for $100, just need to find time to swap it out, then I'm gonna rip apart the bad one and see what they did wrong...

Also found a free topper (I've always called it a cap, but everyone seems to know it as a topper?) and spent $7 on spray paint to make it match the truck...

LOL! A lot has changed here. After I came back from being M.I.A. for a while, I was shocked at how it all looked. :hah:Thought I was on the wrong site at first. Awesome to hear the '84 is still Gitten' It Done!! Pretty awesome the deals you're finding on the parts; that will definitely keep it easy to keep her running. Funny you mention the "topper", I've always called it a Cap too.

Glad to see your back Buddy.

Read back through the thread, remembered a few more things I've done... replaced the wiper motor, ended up putting in a new gas tank (my original patch held, but more holes developed... didn't want to keep plugging holes), put a battery in that actually holds a charge, and changed the mufflers. Used take-offs from a newer GTO with turn downs in front of the axle. I like the sound, reminds me of an old work truck... except for a bad drone at idle. Future plans call for either 2-1/4 or 2-1/2 pipe with an h-pipe, and a different set of mufflers...

Trans is out! Didn't have to fight anything! Took 4 of the bell housing bolts out without a wrench, yikes... fluid looks like metal flake paint...

Waaay too much metal in the pan... and the loose bellhousing bolts resulted in a cracked case. That trans was definitely on borrowed time...

Trans is in! The last of the parts should be here tomorrow... I might actually get to drive her again soon!

Had to scavenge the shift linkage rod out of the old trans because the new one broke off when I tried to change the arm... put a new filter in it while I had the pan off, pan was nice and clean on the inside!
